#42: Pancake Support
I’ve never worked in a 911 call center, so I don’t really know what the rules are. If someone calls in for something that isn’t an emergency, do you have to hurry them off the line so that it’s open for future callers? Or are you allowed to talk through whatever they called about? I imagine it varies based on how busy the call center is and how likely it is that another emergency call is coming in.
In this case, apparently, the woman who answered the phone had a bit of extra time, because she kindly took a moment to explain to this young caller how to make pancakes. Personally, I’m kind of impressed that she could remember the instructions off the top of her head. I’m also impressed that she took the time to help, instead of just laughing, which is what I probably would have done.
