#33: A New Twist on Rabid Dog Stories
File this one under “This is what veterinarians are for.” Look, a rabid dog is no joke, and if you had a feral dog on the street that was foaming at the mouth and presenting a threat to passersby, that actually might be a situation where calling 911 is warranted. But this? Not warranted.
For one thing, birds can’t get rabies, so there’s no way the bird was rabid. For another thing, rabies is passed through the saliva of infected animals, so even if the bird was somehow rabid, the only way the dog could have gotten infected would be if the bird had bitten it. I’m no wildlife expert, but I’ve never heard of a bird biting a dog.
