Let’s face it. Waste is a huge problem, and the rise of online shopping hasn’t helped. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the average American produces almost five pounds of trash a day. That’s a lot of waste! Then, online shopping enters the chat. How many times have we received a package in the mail that was filled to the brim with unnecessary packing materials? Most of the bubble wrap, cardboard, and paper ends up in the trash or recycling bin. To show you what we mean, we’re highlighting some of the most over-the-top, unnecessary packaging fails that people have encountered during their shopping adventures. Get ready to roll your eyes and shake your head along with us.
#1: Five Boxes Too Many
Someone ordered five individual nail polishes from Amazon and was surprised to see five individual boxes on their front porch a few days later. Did she forget that she ordered something else in addition to her new nail polish? Nope! Each individual bottle was packaged in its own cardboard box.
This packaging is so over the top it would be funny if it wasn’t so wasteful. Nail polish bottles are tiny. These five bottles could easily be packaged in one small box instead of five huge ones. We get that Amazon has various warehouses throughout the country, but this inefficient packaging is out of control.
