#15: Eco-Friendly Material, But What About the Packaging?
This product packaging is an example of greenwashing at its finest. Greenwashing is when a company creates the appearance of being eco-friendly without actually enacting any positive change. This toothpick package advertises itself as an “eco-friendly material.” However, each toothpick is wrapped in plastic.
Is that really necessary? No, it is not. The company that manufactures these toothpicks is extra tricky. Shoppers can’t tell that the toothpicks are wrapped in plastic when they look at the outside of the packaging. The front of the box features a picture of plain wooden toothpicks sans plastic. We don’t appreciate this trickery!
