“It’s as Backawards as Can Be”: Things in American Culture That Make No Sense to the Rest of the World

Discussions about identity and cultural appropriation have become more common as the United States becomes more and more diverse. There is always some kind of debate or another going on about appropriation on social media. It’s hard to keep up! However, not everyone feels that an American adopting something from another culture is inappropriate. 

This person shared that, as someone from Latin America, they’re not offended when something from their culture gets adopted by US society. Many of their friends feel the same way. Cultural appropriation is a sticky topic that creates a lot of different opinions. However, the most important part of any cultural appreciation is a genuine sense of respect.
