What’s a Vacation?
The United States is notorious for its abysmal work-life balance. A big part of that problem is the fact that there is no federal guarantee for paid time off, sick leave, or paid parental leave. The amount (or lack thereof) of PTO varies wildly from job to job. Heck, some employers don’t even offer paid sick days or vacation time.
If you have to miss work, you’re out of luck and a day’s earnings. Not only does the privilege of PTO vary from employer to employer, but it also varies between states. There are some states that have laws and regulations regarding things like paid maternity leave. However, no state requires PTO or a payout for any unused vacation days.
