#22: Katrina Floods
We’ve talked about both hurricanes and floods; what you may not realize is that hurricanes are a common cause of floods, as the sudden influx of heavy rain might be more than the local lakes and rivers, sewer systems, and gutters can handle.

Hurricane Katrina, which we have already discussed, caused immense flooding; according to some estimates, 80% of the city was covered with water, some of it 15 feet deep. Unfortunately, the damage forced many residents out of their homes for good; even when the floodwaters receded, some were not able to return.
