Did you know lightning is attracted to tall and isolated objects? According to weather.gov, “Natural objects that are tall and isolated… like trees and mountains get struck by lightning many times a year.” This poster learned the hard way that lightning often strikes trees.

While it must have been very frightening to have this tree explode so close to them, this person is very lucky that they weren’t any closer to it; according to the same website, being under a tree is the second leading cause of death related to lightning strikes.
