#43: An Authentic Cast Iron Fireplace
If walls could talk, they could tell us so much. Someone was working on the renovation of an old Victorian-era house when they stumbled upon this discovery. A cast iron fireplace was hiding behind a wall. Over the years, a previous homeowner decided to cover up this vintage fireplace or stove as a way to modernize the house.
Enough years have passed that this cast iron stove has become a rare and novel feature in a home. This fireplace is estimated to be from the 1850s. It gives us a clue that this room was once the kitchen. Wood and coal-burning stoves were used before modern-day stoves became commonplace. Here’s hoping the homeowners decide to restore it.
