#7: A Delicious Discovery
Food is an important way to connect with our family history and culture. Many of us have family recipes passed down from generation to generation. This person was lucky enough to find a 130-year-old recipe book that was handwritten by their grandmother. They were cleaning their grandmother’s home when they stumbled upon this valuable family heirloom.
It’s really neat that this storyteller gets to carry a piece of their grandmother after she has passed away. They explained that their grandma was from the UK, and the recipes were kind of hard to read. Most of us simply don’t write in this style of cursive anymore! Interestingly, our storyteller noticed that the recipes got much simpler during the World War years.
