#4: Through the Roof
Sometimes an unfortunate house repair can lead to a once-in-a-lifetime discovery. This homeowner recently purchased a home that was built in the 1920s. He noticed the kitchen ceiling was much lower than the rest of the house but didn’t think too much of it. Eventually, a leak forced our storyteller to remove part of the kitchen ceiling. What he discovered was surprising.
The original tin ceiling was still installed underneath all the new drywall! Unfortunately, most tin was severely damaged and couldn’t be refinished back to its former glory. Our storyteller was able to salvage four panels and restore them. They incorporated the freshly cleaned tin panels into their newly renovated kitchen, which was a nice way to intertwine the old with the new.
