#12: A Message in a Bottle
The idea of a message in a bottle sounds like something out of a fairytale. But it really happens sometimes! A woman who lives in a 135-year-old house in Edinburgh discovered this bottled note hiding under her historic floorboards. Naturally curious, she popped the bottle open and read the note.
The Victorian-era note was written by two men named James and John. It reads, “James Richie and John Grieve laid this floor, but they did not drink the whisky. October 6, 1887. Whoever finds this bottle may think our dust is blowing along the road.” The craftsmen who built the floor of this historic home left their mark and are able to speak to the modern-day homeowner all these decades later. Pretty neat!
