#18: An Accidental Yard Find
How many of us spent summer days digging around in our backyards, hoping to find hidden treasure or mysterious artifacts? Well, someone who lives in Agra, India, experienced this common daydream in real life. They discovered these carved figurines and pieces of pottery in the backyard of their old home. Their curiosity was peaked because they looked ancient.
Our storyteller and their dad got in touch with the Archaeological Survey of India for advice. The news they received was shocking. It turns out that these random pieces of pottery are Portuguese figures from the 3rd or 4th century! They are made entirely of terracotta and hold huge historical and cultural significance. It’s wild to think that our storyteller almost threw these objects in the trash because they looked so unimposing.
