#8: A Casual Picnic
This photo looks more than a little weird. It looks downright dangerous! This odd photo was taken at a Los Angeles alligator farm in the 1920s. Yes, that’s right. We said alligator farm! The Los Angeles Alligator Farm, located in Lincoln Heights, was a fad between 1907 and 1953. Farm guests could mingle and hang out with “trained” alligators.
As we can see from this photo, guests could even enjoy a casual picnic in the water. Those alligators sure look hungry. It’s kind of funny that the two women on the left are happy and smiling while the woman on the right looks more than a little concerned that the alligators are about to jump on the table and eat her sandwich (or her). Thankfully, the farm’s chef-slash-handler is standing next to her with a stick to fight off any alligator attacks.
