#29: “One-Punch Presley Unscathed”
It’s hard to explain just how famous Elvis Presley was back in the late 1950s. His innovative style and good looks turned the music world upside down and sideways. His fame was constantly making headlines like this one from an October 18, 1956 newspaper. It reads, “One-Punch Presley Unscathed,” next to an odd photo of Elvis posing with a cute dog.
If you read this old article, you’ll soon find out that Elvis got into a scuffle with the owner of a car garage. Apparently, Elvis had stopped by to service his car when fans began to flock around the famous singer. When the garage owner objected, Elvis punched him. In a classic example of fame and privilege, the charges against Elvis were dropped, but the owner was fined $35. How rude!
