If you have ever seen a Hollywood movie, chances are you are familiar with the MGM logo. At the beginning of every MGM film, an intro of a lion roaring in front of a black background is seen. But we bet you didn’t know how this logo came to be!
In 1924, Slats the Lion was hired to be MGM Studios’s face and filmed for their film intro. Volney Phifer trained this particular lion and was the first trained lion to be used in the branding of the brand-new film studio.
