It’s wild to think that we used to live in a world where humans had never set foot on the moon. The thought of traveling to outer space and making contact with alien ground seemed completely out of the realm of possibility to many people. Well, many people except these brilliant scientists. 

This photo looks like a bunch of guys drawing on blow-up beach balls, but the true story is way more interesting. These two men were photographed studying the phases of the moon in preparation for the first manned flight to the moon. This 1962 photo was taken just a few years before Neil Armstrong became the first man to step foot on the moon on July 20, 1969.
