When You Gotta Go, You Gotta Go
Who knew something as mundane as a toilet could hold so much significance? John Travolta’s character in Pulp Fiction is always on the toilet, it seems. There is a reason for that – his substance abuse problem causes constipation. This little detail clues the viewer into an important aspect of Vincent’s character.
On top of that, every time Vincent goes to the restroom, Tarantino uses that as a plot device. Something new, and bad, seems to happen once Vincent finishes up and leaves the restroom. As it turns out, going to the restroom was one of the most dangerous things he could do because it led to Mia’s overdose, Butch attacking him, etc.
