His Best Work
The last shot in the final scene of Inglourious Basterds is excellent, of course, but did you catch the double meaning behind it? Turns out, Quentin Tarantino is, in no uncertain terms, letting us know what he really thinks about his own movie. No one ever said Tarantino was a humble guy.
In the final scene, as Lieutenant Aldo Rayne crouches over Hans Landa, he says he thinks this work “just might be my masterpiece.” The movie abruptly ends and cuts to Tarantino’s name on the screen. This is Tarantino very clearly telling us that he has the same opinion as Rayne about his own movie.
