Worth the Risk
Music can really make or break a scene in a movie. Luckily, this scene in Reservoir Dogs (1992) became iconic partly thanks to the song choice. In Tarantino’s debut film, Mr. Blonde is seen torturing a police officer while a very catchy song plays over the scene. This famous song is very likely to get stuck in the middle of your head.
It is a well-known fact that obtaining the license for this song cost Tarantino the film’s entire music budget. It was a risk that was worth taking, considering how famous this scene has become in movie history. This scene, and this movie, put Quentin Tarantino on the map, so we think of the cost as more of an investment, really.
