#11: Metric vs. Imperial
Ah, the metric system. It’s a straightforward, logical way to measure things. In classic American form, the United States doesn’t use it. The US is one of only three countries in the entire world that uses the imperial measurement system instead. We just love being different and unique, don’t we?
Over the decades, there have been many false alarms concerning when and how the United States would switch over to the metric system. Kids have been hearing this line since the 1970s. You might have even had a half-hearted lesson or two where a confused teacher tried to teach imperial-to-metric conversions. All of these lessons and scare tactics are misleading. At this point, we’re probably never switching over to metric.
