#17: A Changing Map
Maps are an interesting thing. We learn about the world by looking at maps, and many of us just assume that everything we see is fact. It’s an officially printed map of the world, after all. However, maps can change as the world changes. Borders change, countries fall, and maps have to be adjusted.
Someone learned this first-hand when they grew up in Germany in the ‘80s and ‘90s. At the time, Germany and the city of Berlin were divided into East and West. Once the Berlin Wall came down, the boundaries, countries, and territories looked much different than the maps in their classroom. It’s interesting how quickly maps can become irrelevant due to world events.
