#23: Helmet Up For Safety, Circa 1950s
Vintage cars are absolutely beautiful. Looking at old photographs, it’s easy to admire their sturdy construction and gorgeous design. This vintage photo shows a man proudly posing next to his car, also known as his pride and joy. This photo sticks out to many modern viewers because he’s wearing a helmet. That’s definitely not something we see every day.
The combination of the man’s suit and the racing aesthetic of the helmet creates an odd picture. Perhaps this guy just wanted to be extra safe while driving around town. The ironic part of this whole thing is that seatbelts weren’t even a thing in the 1950s. Seatbelts weren’t required by law until the 1960s. It seems kind of ironic to be wearing a helmet with no seatbelt, but at least his head is protected in case anything happens.
