#19: Tupperware Party, Circa 1960s
Did your mom ever go to or host Tupperware parties? If she did, this photo probably brings back a ton of memories. Tupperware parties are kind of stereotyped as silly get-togethers for suburban moms. However, Tupperware parties were a new-fangled idea back in the 50s and 60s. Tupperware started these selling parties as a ploy for women to start their own businesses.
Women hosted these parties to sell plastic Tupperware to other attendees. Does this sound like an MLM? Absolutely! Tupperware parties were part of the original MLM scheme we all know about today through other less savory companies. The thing is, most of our moms and grandmas used those Tupperware bowls for decades. Who says plastic is cheap?
