#2: Job Hunting During The Great Depression, Circa 1930s
The Great Depression is something we all learn about in history class. However, we tend to forget that it was a very real time in history that actual people experienced first-hand. The hardships and struggles that many of our grandparents and great-grandparents experienced are beyond measure. This 1930s photo shows a huge group of men lined up for the possibility of finding a job.
Unemployment and extreme poverty were rampant during the Great Depression. At the peak of The Depression in 1933, over 12 million people were unemployed. At the time, that was almost 25% of the United States population. This photo of desperate, out-of-work men is just a tiny glimpse into the reality that people lived through every day at the time.
