#8: NYC Summer, 1936
New York City is an inherently nostalgic city. If you have ever visited or lived in this great city, you know that every corner and street is full of history and thriving culture. This vintage photo was taken in 1936 and perfectly captures the energy of New York City that is still present to this day.

New York in the summer is hot as heck. Now, imagine New York City in the summer of 1936. It’s humid, there’s no central air conditioning, and kids are on summer break. Naturally, someone in the neighborhood has to crack open the fire hydrant. Yup, people actually opened up fire hydrants back in the day to keep cool. This 1936 photo shows a makeshift pool made by the neighborhood kids. They look like they’re having a blast.
