You want to learn about something absolutely fascinating? Look up the history of how we divide up time. It’s tempting to think that we’ve been using our current calendar, along with hours, minutes and seconds, since the beginning of recorded time. But the truth is actually much more complicated than that.

The system we use today is based on hundreds and thousands years of customs being slowly built up and changing over time. So is January the first month because it’s named after Janus? Well… it’s complicated. It is the first month, and it is named after Janus, but there’s a lot more to the story. I recommend you look it up.
