#35: Milkshake with a Kick
Milkshakes. The word evokes images of rosy-cheeked young children enjoying a sweet and delicious treat, or maybe a teenaged couple sharing an ice cream treat down at the malt shop after they’ve been to a sock hop. (As you might have guessed, I watch a lot of stuff made in the 1950s.)

So you might be surprised to learn that one of the original recipes for a milkshake was one that is not at all kid- or teenager-friendly. Whose bright idea was it to put alcohol in an ice cream-based treat? I wonder what they thought it was adding to the experience. And I’m glad that tradition has ended, so we don’t have to worry about not giving milkshakes to children, pregnant women, or recovering alcoholics.
