#27: Named After a Car
This fascinating fact is a couple of layers deep. First is the fact that Toyota is headquartered in a city called Toyota in Japan. That might not be too surprising if you’ve ever visited Hershey, Pennsylvania; there are a few different reasons that a company might share its name with the town it’s in.
But the reason for Toyota being called Toyota is probably not the reason that you’re imagining: the company did not get its name from the town where it was located. Rather, the town where it is located eventually changed its name to match the company. I guess when your town hosts one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, you want your town name to reflect that.
