#13: Strasbourg Cathedral
This door handle has been around for centuries. We have a feeling it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The stone surrounding this heavy-duty metal handle has been worn down after centuries of regular use. Someone spotted this well-worn door while touring Strasbourg Cathedral in Alsace, France, and thought it was interesting.
While we’re not sure how old this stone door is, construction of the cathedral began in the 12th century and wasn’t completed until 1439. So, this stone door full of engraving could very well be over 600 years old! Looking at the strange circular indentation around this handle is like looking at the past. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people who lived hundreds of years ago used this door. Now, we’re looking at it. Wild, right?
