#30: A Secret Island
This picture isn’t particularly amazing for what can be seen with the eye but rather for what can’t. This island, known as North Sentinel Island, is home to an indigenous population that has fiercely defended it from any outside incursion until the present day, inspiring all kinds of stories.
While there is some sort of tacit understanding between the Sentinelese people and the Indian government, most interactions with outsiders have been hostile. This includes shooting arrows at Indian government helicopters and killing a fisherman who accidentally drifted too close to the island, as well as a missionary who made his way there in 2018.
