#33: Build Your Own Furniture
According to the EPA, over 12 million tons of furniture are thrown away yearly in the U.S. alone. From the inner workings to the outer covers, nearly every piece is synthetic, and it’s filling up landfills everywhere. Making furniture reduces the use of these materials and adds longevity to each item. You can source items like old wooden pallets, discarded structures, old tires, and many others!
This is another gem in the trash to treasure pile! There are several initiatives in the works already. Join Restoration Hardware or Joybird’s tree planting program! For many, buying eco-conscious furniture isn’t an option, but making it is! It’s another green project that’s not only good for the brain but great for the body, too!
