#30: Start a Compost
Composting is a great way to reduce food waste while perking up your garden. You can build a compost pile holder with wood scraps from your yard or trash you find, and then it’s just a matter of learning what makes great compost! You’ll want to avoid adding diseased, toxic, or pesticide-soaked plants, but feel free to add many other things!
Old wood, fruit and vegetable peels, stale bread, and other items are perfect. Be sure to balance your greens and browns, and stay away from animal byproducts like eggs and meats, as they’ll attract pests and leave a foul odor in your pile. While it’s okay to use a small amount of citrus, too much can harm your end result.
