Sliced bread is ubiquitous these days. In fact, the only way to get a loaf of bread that isn’t presliced is to go to a bakery, or at least the bakery section of your local grocery store. So, like many of you, I assume, I have never thought much about bread slicing or when and how it started.

But now I’m an expert! It’s extraordinary that this man was so convinced of the utility of a bread-slicing machine that he remained dedicated to the idea for 16 years.
