#28: Named After a Car
This fascinating fact is a couple of layers deep. First, Toyota is headquartered in a city called Toyota in Japan. That might not be too surprising if you’ve ever visited Hershey, Pennsylvania; there are a few reasons a company might share its name with the town it’s in.
But the reason for Toyota being called Toyota is probably not the reason that you’re imagining: the company did not get its name from the town where it was located. Rather, the town where it is located eventually changed its name to match the company. When your town hosts one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, you want your town name to reflect that.
