#7: Hungry Like the Wolf
Attempting to bolster wolf populations, sometimes by reintroducing wolves into areas where they were previously wiped out, can be a pretty controversial act; in areas with a lot of ranching, the ranchers often object to such attempts out of worry that the wolves will kill their livestock. But it turns out that in addition to being good for the wolf populations, this is also good in other ways.
Who would have guessed that increasing wolf populations would lessen the number of deer being hit by cars—not because there are fewer deer, but because the deer learn to behave more cautiously? Turns out there can be a lot of benefits to increasing the wolf population. Also, Landscape of Fear is going to be the name of my first horror novel.
