#16: That Old Chestnut
Today, I learned that a tired old joke is even older and more tiring than we thought. This is one of those lines that I imagine being used by middle-tier standup comics that my grandparents would have enjoyed listening to over a light supper in the 1960s.

But it’s much older than that! As old as Rome, in fact. Maybe that makes it so old that instead of being old and tired, it has now become a revered antique, and we should quote it with as much reverence as we would the Aeneid or Ovid’s Metamorphosis.
