#14: Robert Wadlow, Giant of Illinois
Humans usually look tiny compared to other species or amazing man-made feats. However, Robert Wadlow is an example of how the average human can look quite small next to someone of an amazing height. Robert Wadlow passed away in 1940, but he continues to hold the title of the tallest person in recorded history.
Wadlow is pictured here with the rest of his family. He was 8 feet, 11.1 inches tall and surpassed his father’s height when he was only eight. This photo is a stunning visual of just how tall Wadlow was compared to the average person. He towers over his family, which is why the media gave him the nickname the “Giant of Illinois” when he became famous. His incredible height was caused by the hypertrophy of his pituitary gland.
