#32: Lumberyard vs. Man
Sure, trees can be pretty big. But what about a giant stack of lumber? This vintage photo was taken in 1919 at the Seattle Cedar Lumber Manufacturing Company in Washington. The mill processed tons of old-growth trees into lumber, especially during the early 20th century. This photo shows a human for scale.

That’s a whole lot of wood. It’s sad to think of how many ancient trees were cut down to produce this lumber, but it’s also staggering to see the scale of production from this mill. Something about the giant stack of lumber next to a tiny human is deeply unsettling. Are we the only ones who are freaked out?
