#8: Singles By Gerber
We all know Gerber for its baby food, but there was a point in 1974 when the company decided it wanted to see how the adult market responded to baby food (a questionable assumption to begin with). Gerber didn’t skimp on flavor, either–some options included Blueberry Delight, Beef Burgundy, and Mediterranean Vegetables.
Singles by Gerber, unfortunately, didn’t find much success. Gerber quickly learned that although pre-mixed food was convenient, it just didn’t appeal to adults, who preferred to chew on real food. While it was a valiant effort on Gerber’s part, we can definitely understand why these Singles weren’t a hit. Was the name targeting single people who didn’t have anyone to cook for? We’ll never know.
