10. Porridge, Sponsored By Corn Inc.
Porridge has been eaten for thousands upon thousands of years. It’s pretty easy to make; mix some sort of grain with water, and voila! You have porridge. The Scottish variety, usually made with oats, is the most well-known and likely the oldest. It makes for a hearty meal, and adding some fruit and other toppings can spruce it up into something very enjoyable.
Now, if we move to the other side of the pond, a new variety of porridge was born in the south, an odd creation that has come to be known as grits. This traditional southern breakfast is made from corn, likely due to the absurd amounts of corn that can be found throughout the US Midwest. It’s quite good, I hear.
