7. Cream Cheese In Sushi? No Thank You!
Personally, I’m going to vote a no on this one, but putting cream cheese in sushi has become popular not only in the US but in the world at large, I might be in the minority here. Sushi culture is its own thing, flexible for the various vegetables and fishes you can put in it. This incredibly versatile food has had increasingly creative takes over the years.

Many people like their sushi fried with tempura, and it is common now to put the rice outside other types of rolls to make more room for fillings. In Japan, the first iterations were sometimes just rice and fish in a maki roll as a cheap dish for rural farmers. You can usually fit maybe a piece of fish and a bit of vegetable in, but it’s far smaller (and sometimes healthier) than how we’re doing it.
