#8: Wikipedia: Friend or Foe?
Growing up, Wikipedia was to be avoided like the plague. This was especially true in the early 2000s. Some teachers would even fail students who listed a Wikipedia page in their bibliography. The horror! The thinking behind this was that Wikipedia was an unreliable source. To this day, many people are under the impression that anyone can go in and edit a Wikipedia page.
This is not true. It’s actually quite hard to edit a Wikipedia page. You can’t just go in and add random mumbo jumbo. Wikipedia is constantly monitored and fact-checked. If you still run into the stigma against Wikipedia, you can scroll down to the “Sources” section. All the sources on the Wikipedia page are listed in MLA format. Talk about a research hack.
