#9: Saved By Boredom
Here’s another story of a powerful person fending off those who seek to unseat them. In this scenario, a Chinese emperor was under threat of assassination. The assassins managed to get pretty close to their target but ran into one issue that prevented them from finishing the job as they had intended.
The emperor’s escape was more of a test of wills. All the emperor did was continue running around a pillar, staying on the other side at all times so that the assassin could not get to him. After two hours, the assassin either got too tired or too bored to continue. Lucky for them, the emperor decided not to press any charges for whatever reason.
