#12: Unpainted Statues
Many of our images of ancient Greece and Rome come from the statues that those civilizations left behind. However, these statues look nothing like they did when their sculptors first completed them. The main difference is that while these statues are made of pure marble today, they were originally painted all over.
It is no surprise that a few layers of paint have faded over the many centuries since those ancient times. But some of the paint removals were intentional as well. Regardless of your personal preference for paint or marble as a finish, it would be quite interesting to see these statues as their creators intended them to look.
