Dads and their kids often hold a special bond. Sometimes it happens because the dads make a concerted effort to build a close relationship with their child. Other times it happens because the dads have the same level of maturity and decision-making skills as their children, so they bond over needing to hide Dad’s dumb decisions from Mom. To prove it, we’ve gathered stories from the web where people answer the question, “What’s a time your dad told you, ‘Shh, don’t tell Mom?’” The answers range from heartwarming to facepalm-worthy. Read on to see the kind of sweetness and/or ridiculousness some people’s dads get up to.

#1: Watch Your Language
If there’s one thing that kids are great at, it’s remembering things you don’t want them to remember and then deciding to repeat them at the worst possible moment. So you’d best watch yourself swearing in front of a kid because you’d best believe that they are going to pick that up and start saying it everywhere.

But to be fair, if I had nearly drilled a screw into my own foot, I would also be a little bit flustered. I guess if you found yourself in a situation like this, and you found yourself saying something you didn’t want your wife to know about, you would have to swear the kid to secrecy.
