#34: Little Cats Are Like Big Cats
Some cat owners affectionately refer to their cats as micro-tigers, but that phrase may be more apt than they know. This fact reveals the domestic cats that we know and love share more than 95% of their DNA with tigers despite having diverged in the evolutionary tree over 10 million years ago.
As I understand it, cats have not had much need to alter their DNA since domestication as much as other animals have. The reason is that they found a perfect means of survival by cohabitating with humans. Once they found that fit, there was no biological need to continue altering their genetic code.
