#35: Don’t Believe Everything You Read
Critical thinking and media literacy are two skills that are necessary for navigating the constant stream of information at our fingertips. If we believed every single thing we read or heard on the news, Twitter, and Facebook, we’d be in big trouble. Wait… now that we think about it, that’s exactly what some people do.
While it’s important to stay informed, it’s also essential to use logic and critical thinking when consuming the news. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. If the media is villainizing a certain group of people or creating mass hysteria, stop and think about what exactly is so scary. It’s important to form your own opinion instead of being spoon-fed someone else’s.
