#21: A Broken System
In recent years, many reform advocates have pointed out the pitfalls and negative effects of mass incarceration in the United States. It’s a tricky subject to approach because of its many layers and perspectives. However, it’s a known fact that people of color are disproportionately affected by mass incarceration, which then affects employment, poverty, and even infant mortality rates.
Of course, offenders need to face the consequences of dangerous and illegal behavior. However, there are certain aspects of the US justice system that are broken and could use some fixing. The thing is, we can’t seem to figure out the best way to fix these problems, so we carry on with business as usual.
