#37: Surprising Speed
The green sea turtle is a remarkable aquatic creature known for its surprising speed in the water. While on land they may seem slow and cumbersome due to their large size and shell structure, once they’re in their natural habitat, the sea, they transform into swift swimmers! They are capable of reaching speeds of up to 35 miles per hour (56 kilometers per hour) during their oceanic journeys.
To put this in perspective, this means they can outpace the legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, who holds the world record for the 100-meter dash at a speed of about 27 miles per hour. This remarkable ability allows green sea turtles to cover vast distances in search of food and nesting sites, making them one of the fastest swimmers in the animal kingdom.
